#Mortal shell giant frog series
He will recycle his same series of attacks, sometimes mixing in a head slam attack (dodge to the side if he plants his wings in the ground and raises his head in the air) and a flying attack (he will attempt to position himself in the air and drop down on top of you, harden for an easy counter). Most of the items you find in the world of Mortal Shell will be consumables-things you can eat to heal yourself or to gain Resolve or Stamina, or use to protect yourself from harm. Thankfully you should have four bars of resolve ready to go, so lay into him with some weapon ability combos. Just don't get pulled in yourself or you will die instantly.įollowing the whirlpool The Unchained will return to the battle, along with his shadow soldiers. If you kill them before they reach the center you can prevent The Unchained's healing. At this point you need to walk to the edge of the whirlpool and start attacking the shadows as they enter its pull. The shadows will run toward the whirlpool and get sucked in, and any that are pulled into the middle will be eaten and heal The Unchained. When he gets below half health The Unchained will dive into the water and summon a giant whirlpool. If you have any resolve left this is also an ideal time to burn one to knock the boss down and deal with the shadows while he is incapacitated. Your best bet is to run around until you get the shadows into a group, then harden attack to wipe them all out in one swing. They will run at you and start attacking relentless, and it is easy to get overwhelmed by their attacks especially with The Unchained continuing to attack you as well. Right around half health The Unchained will start summoning shadowy warriors into the battle field that take one hit to kill.

Its the perfect punish for this annoying attack. As The Unchained dashes in for his attack, activate your weapon skill to avoid both the wave and his attack, AND trigger a knockdown all at once. After he leaps back the second time, dash through the first wave and run forward, positioning yourself in the path of the second wave. The Unchained will combo these waves with his usual arm sweep attack, but thankfully your weapon abilities offer an easy counter. I recommend dashing into them at least twice to ensure you pass through, as the hitbox is a little janky. If you do not dash through these waves they will deal damage, knock you down, and leave you open to an attack all at once. Your goal in this early stage of the fight is to build up as much resolve as possible so you can make use of your abilities in the later phase.Īs he nears two-thirds health The Unchained will start summoning waves in the water whenever he jumps around. Any time The Unchained leaps back he will repeat this exact process, so simply rinse and repeat to whittle his giant healthbar down. When you see him start the attack you should harden to block, then finish out your combo to complete the stagger.Īnnoyingly, The Unchained's head has a hitbox when he falls to the ground after a stagger so always try to approach him from the side when going in for damage. After one or two hits he will attempt to counter with either a tail sweep, or another arm sweep. Dash into as he approaches, and then start laying into him with a combo to try and get the stagger. The Unchained always opens the battle with a long range dash, follow by an arm sweep. The Hallowed Sword and Hammer and Chisel have the best weapon abilities for this fight, allowing you to make the most of your resolve. Weapon abilities are incredibly effective on The Unchained, so you want a Shell with at least four resolve. Before we get into the boss strategy I highly recommend you go into this fight using either Harros or Solomon and equipping either the Hallowed Sword or Hammer and Chisel (assuming you have them maxed out).
